a fault in your throat
a deep, crackling story
you crunch out your teeth
dump on the people

the people are tired, hung
up coats and seen ashes
skittering out to the linoleum
that shit is cheap, that floor

we don’t belong there, nobody
does, nobody wants to be there
doesn’t even have to be a place
to be, but you—you with that fault
that insatiable thirst—keep

you keep building it, you keep
tucking the people in there, you
keep closing an iron door, you keep
locking the angry door, you keep standing
on the other side, saying you aren’t here
you aren’t in this place you say, you aren’t
anyone, no one that i can see.
